    Suzuki Kizashi Sedan

    4th August 2009

A forum poster over at Motive discovered the very first undisguised photos of the production version of the Suzuki Kizashi ahead of the mid-size sedan’s official debut that’s scheduled for Thursday, July 30. We’ve seen one too many spy shots (along with a set of official sketches) of the Kizashi to be surprised with the sedan’s looks, but nevertheless, we must say that the transition from the 2008 NY Show concept to the final production model leaves a bitter taste to the mouth. Hit the jump for the photo album or click here to check out our previous post on the Kizashi that includes pictures of the sedan’s interior.

The production version of the Suzuki Kizashi sedan was officially revealed today in a special launch event in Detroit. Built at Suzuki’s new manufacturing plant in Sagara, Japan, the Kizashi will serve as the company’s flagship model when it arrives in North American showrooms this winter. Available in both front- and all-wheel drive versions, Suzuki’s Mazda6 and VW Passat rival will initially be offered with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine linked to either a 6-speed manual transmission or optionally, a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Standard equipment on all the 2007 Forenza models includes air conditioning, power windows, locks and mirrors. For more pampering, try the Popular trim level which offers cruise control and keyless entry. For sun worshipers, the Popular trim level can put you in more intimate touch with the healing rays of the sun with a standard sunroof. The interior features of the Forenza offer its driver a fully adjustable seat, excellent instrumentation, and a superb audio system. The split folding rear seat will not go unnoticed as it offers a configuration for carrying some pretty unwieldy cargo.

Safety is a priority in the 2007 Suzuki Forenza, as exemplified by its front side airbags, 4-wheel disc brakes, and optional; anti-lock brakes. The Forenza handles admirably in a variety of driving conditions. Highway travel is quiet and relaxing, while it also manages curves with agility and surefootedness. Off the line, the 2007 Forenza is not a jackrabbit but, ascends hills with aplomb. Surprisingly for an economy automobile, the Forenza is remarkably quiet, especially on the highway. Engine noise does become noticeable on acceleration, but outside noise is minimal. Braking is quick and sure with no fading or mushiness behind the break pedal.

We especially liked the exterior lines of the 2007 Forenza, which are clearly European influenced. The strong grille statement and up-swept headlights positively smile at you. The fuel economy specs for the 2007 Forenza are worthy of review with 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway for the manual transmission, and 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway for the automatic. The 2007 Suzuki Forenza is a car designed for the economy-minded driver, but keeps up with its upscale competitors with its admirable performance, and many coveted features.
